With Togo, Mawouna Amevor will take on this period against Senegal and Mauritania. For the 33-year-old defender of FC Volendam it is special every time he puts on the yellow shirt of his home country. “I always get goose bumps at the full song.”
Emotional again
That is mainly due to his father. Amevor grew up in Rotterdam and his Dutch mother raised him in the port city of South Holland. For a long time he had no contact with his Togolese father, but thanks to the football association of Togo he came back in contact with him after almost twenty years. “That was emotional, because I really only knew him from photos and the stories of my mother.”
