The government wants to give citizens more control over the use of their data by the government. By providing better insight into which data is shared, by being able to easily adjust data and where possible share it according to your own wishes.

An important part of this is to provide better insight into the use of data from government registrations. A first step in this regard is to provide citizens with an online overview of organizations that receive data from the Basic Registration of Persons (BRP).

Access BRP in MijnOverheid.nl

From March 14, 2022, citizens can therefore: MyGovernment View online with which (government) organizations information from the Basic Registration of Persons (BRP) is shared.
The BRP records information about someone, such as social security number, name, date of birth, marriage or address. The municipality where you are registered will keep this information. Government organizations can obtain this data from the BRP, if it is necessary to perform their legal task. Think of collecting taxes or providing benefits. Organizations with a social task can also obtain this data, such as pension funds, health insurers and hospitals.

The sharing of data from the BRP is automatic. You do not need to give permission for this. This is laid down in the BRP Act and Decree. It also states with which organizations BRP data may be shared.

Insight into usage

Via their MyGovernment, citizens gain insight into which organizations automatically receive an update if personal data changes in the BRP, for example an address when moving. For each organization it is described for which purpose the personal data of the citizen is shared.

The organizations in the overview on MijnOverheid.nl are only allowed to use the BRP data under strict conditions.
