Rad-star Egan Bernal files on his comeback. Only a month ago he had broken his collarbone in the event of a fall.

Egan Bernal keep throwing injuries back from the Ineos Grenadier team. So also this year. A month ago, a fall in Spain led to a break in the keybone.

Now the comeback is imminent again. The Colombian announced on the TV broadcaster “ESPN” that he would give his comeback on the Catalonia tour in the coming week.

Bernal: “Feel very good”

“Three days after the operation, I was already sitting on my bike and recovering the training, even though the doctors hesitated a little,” said the 28-year-old about his rehabilitation program.

“I feel very good at the moment. And the numbers are also good. However, the body has to process anesthesia and medication from the operation and the accident,” continued Bernal.

The former Tour-de-France winner was heavily overthrown in mid-February at the one-day race Clásica Jaén Paraíso Interior in southern Spain and had suffered a broken collarbone. Bernal was taken to the hospital, later in the evening his team Ineos Grenadiers announced the diagnosis.

First successes after almost fatal fall

Originally, he had planned to start the Tirreno-Adritico (March 10th to 16th) and the Giro (May 9th to June 1st) in Italy at the one-day race Strade Bianche (March 8). The tour of Italy is still the goal, Bernal explained.

Only ten days before his fall, Bernal, who won the tour in 2019 and won the Giro d’Italia in 2021, had triumphed at the Colombian championships in the street race and time trial, and thus celebrated the first successes since his almost fatal training accident around three years ago.

Bernal had crashed into a standing bus at the time, eight months later he gave his comeback.
