At Eintracht Braunschweig, the fear of descent after the clap against Hertha BSC is great. Is the solution Torsten Lieberknecht?

For Eintracht Braunschweig, the air in the relegation battle of the 2nd Bundesliga is thinner. The 1: 5 against the direct competitor Hertha BSC was like an oath of revelation. At the BTSV, after the violent bankruptcy, you are on the alert in front of a home backdrop. And suddenly coach Daniel Schering is apparently up for discussion. The “Braunschweiger Zeitung” reports.

Accordingly, the Eintracht supervisory board wanted to come together on Monday evening to talk about the coaching position. The outcome of the talks is now completely open. According to the newspaper, even a sensational return of coaching icon Torsten Lieberknecht is conceivable.

The name of the 51-year-old, who has been without a club in September 2024, has already fallen internally. However, it is questionable whether one did not want to continue with Scherning and whether Lieberknecht could even imagine a return.

Lieberknecht was employed as a chief coach at Eintracht from 2008 to 2018 and shaped an era during his term. Among other things, he had climbed into the Bundesliga with the Braunschweigers at the time. After his commitment to BTSV, he stopped at MSV Duisburg (2018 to 2020) and Darmstadt (2021 to 2024).

Eintracht is currently facing the weeks of truth. After 26 games, the Braunschweig relegation place 16. The violent defeat against Hertha put the association on alert. The distance to the saving bank increased to three points. The SSV Ulm on the direct relegation place 17 approached three points.

If you decide on a new impulse on the coaching position shortly before the final sprint, now would be a suitable time. The coming weekend is free of play due to the international break. The BTSV then meets the next direct competitor in the relegation battle on March 30 with promoted Prussia Münster.
