Carl Zeiss Jena has a new trainer. Volkan Uluç goes into his second term in the three-time GDR champion. He is particularly connected to the club.
FC Carl Zeiss Jena has found a new trainer. Volkan Uluç takes over the office at the regional league. The 55-year-old succeeds Henning Bürger, who was released on Sunday evening.
Uluç is no stranger in Jena. From December 2014 to summer 2016 he was on the sidelines. In particular, the first round in the DFB Cup against Hamburger SV in August 2015 was remembered by many fans.
Uluç said: “I always remembered the time in Jena and since then I have had a high level of identification with the club.” The possibility of taking responsibility for the club did not let him think long. The new trainer signed a contract until 2027.
Jena is currently third in the Regionalliga Nordost, but with 19 points behind the leadership leader 1. FC Lok Leipzig only has theoretical promotion opportunities. The three-time GDR champion has been running after the success of the great Jena era for years.
In 1981 Carl Zeiss was even in the final of the European Cup winner, but the team of the then coach Hans Meyer lost in Düsseldorf Rheinstadion with 1L2 against Dynamo Tiflis.
