The incident happened on Sunday morning just after half past seven on the Heunsberg where the tower was. The emergency services are present en masse. There are no indications that people are missing.
The watchtower is a national monument from 1906 and also part of an amusement park in Valkenburg. There was a cafe and a cable car under the tower. The café was not open during the collapse.
The tower was already closed for maintenance, says the website of the amusement park. Although the work had not yet started, according to the safety region.
