“Bit chilly, innit? Can’t Wait for it to be Summer, ”says Loraine James in the first seconds of her second album under her alias whatever the Weather. While the British produces Breaks and IDM under real names and is largely based on club music, she takes it easy here and turns the view inside.
This is done with pads that serve as a canvas for everything that has to add to the ambient genre. This can be samples of children’s babbles and French sentences such as on “20 ° C” or a slightly crooked bell play on “23 ° C (intermittent sunshine)”, which reflects the sun in perfect way.
In “5 ° C” the bells ring more clearly, but more cool and distant before a synth run meanders into nowhere. On “11 ° C (Intermittent Rain)” James marries disruptive glitch and renitated fiepen with essential keys. An album that takes every temperature that turns the load of everyday life into a dull roar from afar.
