The new eco -design requirements will take effect on June 20, 2025.
The Safety and Chemicals Agency Tukes says in his announcementthat eco -design requirements apply to all kinds of phones and tablets. However, energy labeling is not required for insane phones that are only for speaking and text messages.
– As the product group is new, it is good for mobile phone -specialized online stores to take into account that the product pages must have an energy label and the product description at the price, Tukes Senior Inspector Marika Keskinen says in the bulletin.
In the store, the energy label must be visible near or hung on the demonstration product.
All of this from the entry will be revealed
The new energy label indicates, among other things, the energy efficiency of the device. On a scale, the value to be indicated on the A -G indicates the relationship between the charging energy and the operating time, ie how long the phone’s battery lasts on one charge.
In addition, the label will be recorded on the phone’s drop resistance on a scale of A to E. In order to reach the best A-class, the smartphone must take 270 drops, while, for example, class D phones last 45-90 drops.
The label also contains information on how easy it is to repair. Here too, the scale is A -E.
Requirements for the Ecoscience Planning Regulation
- Durability against accidental drops or scratches, protection against dust and water.
- The cellphone start button must withstand at least 225,000 presses.
- The battery must withstand at least 800 charging and discharge periods while retaining at least 80 % of its original capacity.
- Independent repairers have the right to obtain certain spare parts (such as battery, main microphone, speaker and camera configurations) within 5 to 10 business days on request and for 7 years after the end of the EU market for the EU market.
- Operating system updates must be possible for at least 5 years of the date on which the last unit of the product model is launched.
- Non -discriminatory access to all software or firmware needed for the exchange.
This is how you interpret new energy marking
- (I) QR code for more detailed data examination

- (Iii) the supplier’s model tag
- IV) Energy Efficiency Class (A -G)
- V) Energy efficiency class
- Vi) a time the battery lasts in active use (from full blank)
- Vii) Durability class of repeated free drops (A -E)
- Viii) Class of Correctability (A -E)
- Ix) battery life as a use cycle
- X) Class category, ie the duration of dust, splash and immersion
- Xi) the number of energy marking setting
