At the World Cup, manipulated suits were discovered in Norwegian ski jumpers. But the World Association has also thrown an eye on the combiners.

For days, the manipulation scandal in the Norwegian ski jumping team has been the defining topic in winter sports. But the World Association FIS also has the Nordic combiners in view. The reason for this is the Jørgen Graabak case. The 33 -year -old Olympic champion was discovered on Friday. Graabak was then disqualified.

FIS sports director Lasse Ottesen told the Norwegian broadcaster NRK: “Someone manipulated this bond.” But the bond itself is not a trigger for the further investigation, but the process afterwards.

Because the Norwegians were protesting against the disqualification. The inspectors then wanted to check the bond, but at that time another was already installed. Edgar Fossheim, head of the Norwegian combined committee, confirmed the process at NRK, but showed malignant will. “Nobody expected the ski to be the subject of new investigations. Some claim that this has been done with the intention. That is by no means the truth,” emphasized Fossheim.

Coach Truls Johansen claimed not to know about an exchanged bond when he brought the skis to the inspectors. He spoke of an “unfortunate case”. “You took a few photos of the bonds and I went out again. Then they quickly called me back and told me that the protest was rejected,” said Johansen NRK.

Graabak himself spoke of a “shock”. “I was very surprised when I found out about the disqualification, because I had no idea that I had jumped with the wrong bond,” said the 33-year-old. He only found out about the controversy for the protest from the FIS press release the following day.

The case now lies with the FIS ethics committee – and in view of the other offenses in the Norwegian ski association, the unrest is somewhat larger anyway.
