With a lot of pressure, the Schwenninger Wild Wings started in their home game against the Nuremberg Ice Tigers in front of 5,080 spectators – losing was prohibited. The solution for the Black Forest was forbidden. In the event of a defeat, the pre-playoffs in the DEL for the Wild Wings would have already ended. After eight minutes, hope germinated for the first time. Brett Ritchie used a shot by Jordan Murray with a lot of skill and put it under the Nuremberg goal from a short distance. The 1-0 lead for the Schwenninger Wild Wings. However, Nuremberg was not deterred. After a strong pass from Evan Barrat, Jeremy McKenna scored 1-1. With a tie it went into the third break – a very reasonable score after 20 minutes.

Broken glass in the second third

The second third started rapidly. After only 28 seconds, the puck was in the goal again, again Brett Ritchie for Schwenningen – 2-1. The game was now increasingly heated. After around eight minutes played in the second third, Josef Eham and Daniel Neumann crashed into the gang in the fight for the puck and broke a barrier glass. The players were sent to the cabins for a short cleaning break. After the interruption, Schwenningen was more disciplined than the Nuremberg, which was always outnumbered, was repeatedly outnumbered. However, goals did not want to fall, the greatest chance thwarted Schwenningen’s Joacim Eriksson with a brilliant parade against Evan Barratt. So the narrow but deserved 2-1 went into the third break.

Even in the third third, the game remained largely open. In the 43rd minute, Alex Trivellato could have expanded the lead, but Nuremberg’s keeper Leon Hungerecker steered the puck on the post. As a result, both teams had good chances to get a goal, but both the Schwenninger and the Nurembergers did not use their possibilities. In the last two minutes, Nuremberg took his goalkeeper Hungerecker off the ice and increased the risk to force an extension. Just a few seconds before the end, Brandon McMillan used the empty gate and netted in the counterattack for decision.
