Ajax Amsterdam can compete with goalkeeper Matheus in the second leg of the Europa League round of 16 at Eintracht Frankfurt. This was confirmed by the Dutch top club on Monday. Remko Pasveer had injured himself in the first leg against the SGE and was initially replaced by substitute Jay Gorter. Apart from two young kebab on the B list, the Eredivisie record champion had otherwise not reported a goalkeeper for the competition in favor of more field players.
Pasveer will now not be available for so long that it allows the UEFA regulations to be able to nominate a goalkeeper. The 32-year-old Matheus came from Braga to Ajax in winter and displaced the 41-year-old Pasveer in the goal in February. The Brazilian, currently the fourth most valuable goalkeeper in the league, remained without a goal. The Amsterdamers will go to the European Cup game in Frankfurt on Thursday (6:45 p.m./RTL+) with a 1: 2 deficit. Ellyes Skhiri and Hugo Larsson had met for the Eintracht in the first leg, Brian Brobbey for Ajax.
