The Bruges public prosecutor demanded an investigating judge for murder, but in the first instance no suspects could be arrested. The breakthrough only came when the police received a tip from a British gamer on 25 April 2021. Through Discord, someone would have told him that his younger brother had stabbed someone. According to that brother, Jarod De Clerck just wanted to know what it would feel like to put someone down.
The next day the accused was arrested on suspicion of murder. During his interrogations, the Tieltenaar made confessions, but his motive remains unclear. De Clerck did not know the victim at all.
