The female suspect of the art robbery in the Drents Museum in Assen is released. In the investigation into the disappeared Romanian gold treasures, however, she remains the suspect. The Public Prosecution Service (OM) says this. It is a forty -year -old woman from Heerhugowaard.

She was arrested a few days after the robbery together with two other men from that place. Still later, the police arrested a fourth suspect.

The fact that the woman can await the investigation in freedom may indicate that her involvement in the robbery is smaller. The OM makes no statements about that. “We see as for not sufficient reasons to hold her longer,” says a spokesperson.

Now that the woman can wait for the investigation in freedom, there are three more suspects. It concerns three men aged 26, 34 and 36 years from Heerhugowaard. They must report to the court on Friday 9 May for a first public session.

During that session it becomes clear whether the three male suspects will remain stuck for longer. “Unless we find earlier that one of the three should be released,” the OM said. The three are in limitations, which means that they are not allowed to have contact with the outside world.

The four – the woman remains a suspect in the investigation – from Heerhugowaard are suspected of involvement in the robbery in the museum. In addition, four art treasures from Romania were stolen in the night of 24 to 25 January. The pieces were part of exhibition Dacia – Rich of silver and gold. It is about the golden helmet of Cotofenesti and three gold bracelets.

The art treasures are still without a trace. In the investigation, the police spread the names and photos of two male suspects: Bernhard Z. And Douglas W. With the release of their identity, the police hopes to find out where the gold gone as soon as possible. The police are also looking for a suspect, of whom photos were released when he was one and a half days before the art robber at the Praxis in Assen.

If the golden helmet and bracelets are not found, the Dutch government can look forward to a claim for damages. It concerns an amount of 5.8 million euros.
