Athletics – Jorinde van Klinken did not succeed in conquering a medal when shot at the European Athletics Indoor Athletics in Apeldoorn. Countryman Jessica Schilder stole the show and grabbed the gold with throws until well over twenty meters.
Jorinde van Klinken won silver last year at the European Championship in Rome, but in her own country she was not involved in the final. With a distance of 18.41 meters, she finished eighth.
The best shot of painter was more than two meters further: 20.69. The silver in Apeldoorn was for the German Olympic champion Yemisi Ogunleye with 19.56. The Portuguese Auriol Dongmo won bronze with 19.26.
The shot put final was one of the last parts on the extremely successful European Championship for the Netherlands. In total, the Orange athletes managed to walk, jump and bumps seven titles. Assenaar Nick Smidt was able to cheer twice, he won gold medals on the 4×400 meter relay. Both in the men’s team and in the mixed team, he was part of the winning team.
The relay team for the women 4×400 also took gold tonight. Femke Bol, Lieke Klaver, Cathelijn Peeters and Nina Franke fulfilled their favorite role.
Klaver had already bite the individual 400 meters. Menno Vloon can call itself the best European pole pole high, Samuel Chapple stunted with the gold in the 800 meters.
