For the fans of Hannover 96 and Eintracht Braunschweig, the derby is the highlight of the year. Nevertheless, some supporters are now boycotting the game.
The organized fan scene of Eintracht Braunschweig wants to stay closely closed to the Lower Sachsenidby against Hannover 96 in the 2nd Bundesliga on Sunday (from 1.30 p.m. in the live ticker at T-Online). The reason is the renewed restriction of the guest fan capacity. According to the association, only 824 tickets for the guest block in the Hanoverian stadium were sold – the area actually offers space for around 4,500 trailers. However, the police had limited the number of approved guest fans to a maximum of 2,500.
Braunschweig’s coach Daniel Schering thinks it’s a shame that the derby cannot take place in front of a full stadium. He emphasized that this atmosphere made football: “This experience, with the fans and with the mood on both sides, to be able to contest such a derby.”
The background of the measures are repeated riots in the duels of both clubs in recent years. Lower Saxony’s Interior Minister Daniela Behrens (SPD) had even considered that future games were completely without guest fans.
Finally, the police decided to reduce guest fans – both at the first leg in Braunschweig and now at the second leg in Hanover. Only 60 percent of the away drivers receive access to the arena. Braunschweig supporters protested against this restriction last week in Hanover city center.
An incident after the first leg made of the risks of this strategy: In October, around 50 Hannover fans attacked more than 100 Braunschweig supporters in a restaurant-about 15 kilometers from the stadium. Such a potential “third -party mutual setting” was considered this time when planning the application, the Hanover police department explained.
