Bavaria has increased the chances of the quarter -finals of the Champions League with the clear victory against Bayer Leverkusen. The opponent there has it all.

FC Bayern absolutely wants to reach the final of the Champions League in Munich this year – and took the next step on Wednesday evening. The German record champion did not give the new rival Bayer Leverkusen in the first leg of the round of 16 of the Champions League. In the end it was 3-0 for Bayern.

That means: If no wonder in the coming week from Leverkusen’s point of view, the eleven of coach Vincent Kompany would have reached the quarter -finals of the premier class and would have come a little closer to her dream of “Finale Dahoam”.

So far, it has not been finally clear who Bayern would meet in the round of the last eight. Due to the seed list in the new Champions League reform, it is clear which duel the opponent comes from. And in parallel to the game in the Allianz Arena, it was already clear which task is probably waiting in the quarter -finals. It is an opponent that you don’t have the best memories of at Bayern.

Bayern-Schreck Feyenoord and Inter Milan met in the de Kuip of Rotterdam. The Dutch were swept 3-0 over the German record champion in the group phase. But against Inter Feyenoord now pulled the shorter one. The Italians, who play ex-Bundesliga professionals such as Hakan Çalhanoğlu and Marcus Thuram and the former Bayern star Benjamin Pavard, won 2-0. They even awarded a penalty that could have screwed the result even higher.

Before the second leg in Milan, Inter, currently also league leader of Serie A, is already in the quarter -finals.

The most recent meetings were able to win the Munich. In 2022, Inter was defeated twice with 2-0 in the group phase of the Champions League. But the duels in front of it were associated with a lot of pain for Bayern.

In 2011, both teams met in the round of 16. After a 1-0 win in Milan, Bayern had gone back into the second leg in Munich with a good starting position. But in the end, Inter prevailed 3-2 in the Allianz Arena through a late goal by Goran Pandev. Due to the at the time that was still applicable at the time, Bayern left.

It was even more bitter for the Munich team a year earlier. In the final class in Madrid Estadio Santiago Bernabéu, Diego Milito plunged Bayern into the valley of tears with two goals. In the end, Inter prevailed 2-0. Means: On the way to the 2025 final, Bayern would probably have to defeat their own final fright. Otherwise, the third knockout-round-off against Inter threatens in a row.
