At the end of April 2025, the municipality of Emmen will start a trial with regard to the delivery of travel documents and driving licenses.
Residents can have their travel document or passport delivered to a small fee at a time they desired. After a year, it is checked whether residents make sufficient use of this option. The delivery is possible at a self -chosen moment, also during the weekend or in the evenings.
For the municipality, the test is an expansion of the services for its residents. Alderman Jan Bos: “With the option to have a document delivered, it is made a little easier for our resident. Certainly if people live in the villages or neighborhoods. A second visit to the town hall is not necessary. It saves the resident time, money and offers convenience.”
The municipality pays 10 to 11.50 euros for every delivery and the resident 5 euros. The municipality expects about a tenth of the residents to use the delivery option. That amounts to 242 deliveries per month.
The test is first for a year. Then it is checked whether home delivery is becoming permanent.
