The Alpine Ski World Cup complains about the next fall victim. The Italian Mattia Casse fell in the first training session for the World Cup runs in Kvitfjell after the fastest first in the meantime and crashed into the catch nets.
The 35-year-old, who won the Val Gardena Super-G this winter, was cared for for minutes and finally taken to the hospital for an examination. In the evening, the Ski World Association FIS announced that Casse had suffered a complicated break in the right elbow and had to be operated on.
“Injuries are part of the game”, Casse said in a first reaction: “I stay positive, maybe it wasn’t for the rest of the season.” In the overall Super G overall ranking, Casse is currently in second place behind the Swiss top drivers and world champion Marco Odermatt.
Security debate for a long time
The current season is once again overshadowed by numerous accidents and a serious security debate, a real solution does not seem in sight. The Frenchman Cyprien Sarrazin even floated in mortal danger after his training session at the end of December.
In Kvitfjell, the last two departures in front of the World Cup final in Sun Valley/USA are on the program for the men on Friday and Saturday (in the Sportschau-Livestream). The fastest on the first training trip in Norway was the Slovenian Miha Hrobat. DSV routinier Romed Baumann came to eleventh with a gap of 0.59 seconds.
