Workers who were working in the Grauwe Broederstraat in Diksmuide at that time could extinguish the fire themselves. The flames were created at a table, but the smoke and soot damage ensured that the apartment was temporarily declared uninhabitable.
The four victims, who sustained slight smoking poisoning, were transferred to the hospital for further investigation.
