Thorsten Kirschbaum has announced that from the end of the season he will end his career as a goalkeeper of TSV Obernzenn. From summer, the 37 -year -old native of Würzburg will become new coach of the fourth division club DJK Vilzing after Josef Eibl does not extend his contract at his own request.

Although Kirschbaum has no coaching experience, the board is very optimistic about its appointment: “In this topic, it was already the case with Beppo that we did not see this as a decisive criterion that a trainer has been in business for 20 years,” said Vilzing’s first department head Roland Dachauer. “It is much more important that we are absolutely convinced that Thorsten has a huge expertise, a great character that fits our club and above all a great personality and ideas of team leadership that could be exactly the right one for a coherent chemistry with our troop.”

The association is very happy, we now have planning security early in a key position. Thorsten was actually the only one with whom we have had concrete conversations about this position, because it was simply a really good gut feeling from the first moment that it can fit for us, ”Dachauer continues.

The goalkeeper with stations such as TSG 1899 Hoffenheim, VfB Stuttgart, Bayer 04 Leverkusen or VVV-Venlo in the low-shops is very pleased with the task: “The conversations with Roland Dachauer and Andi Bugl were very positive and convincing from the start. We quickly noticed that we think in the same direction and pursue similar goals. The DJK Vilzing offers me a great option. I look forward to this challenge to get to know the boys and work with them. The association has developed very well in recent years and I would like to help my part to go on. I’m full of drive and I’m looking forward to the start in summer. ”

The contact came about through a Regensburg indoor tournament at the beginning of the year. “I met Roland there and he introduced me to the DJK Vilzing. We quickly noticed that we are thinking in the same direction, ”says Kirschbaum, who has the coach B license and will now register for the course on the A license. This is a prerequisite in the regional league. First, he receives a special permit from the Bavarian Football Association to coach the team from July 1st.

Kischbaum comes from the youth of Obernzenn, where he had returned after the end of his profile career near Jahn Regensburg in 2023. From there he moved to the youth of the 1st FC Nürnberg, where he was trained for five years and then moved to Sinsheim. “Hoffenheim was in the 3rd division at the time, I went through the two ascents to the Bundesliga,” he was quoted by the “kicker”. In 2010 FC Vaduz from Liechtenstein (plays in Switzerland) and SV Sandhausen came to Energie Cottbus, where he completed most of the club with 97 games until 2013 (28 times too zero). After two years as number two of VfB Stuttgart, he returned to Nuremberg, where he rose to the Bundesliga as a regular goalkeeper.
