The favorite quickly caused clear conditions: After a clear 7: 1 (3: 1) victory at PSV Eindhoven, FC Arsenal will be very sure of the last eight in the Champions League. The decision had been made after half an hour.
The game had started for the English with a very annoying moment. After a great attack, Martin Odegaard took a free -standing man in front of the opposing goal to the shot, but Ismael Saibari was still putting his foot in and cleared the Norwegian – but Jesus Gil Manzano did not decide on penalty, and the VAR did not correct his dubious decision either (9th).
Timber, Nwaneri and Merino meet within 13 minutes
Saibari of all people had the great opportunity to lead the hosts when he hit the crossbar from twelve meters – but then Arsenal turned up. Jurrien Timber took the lead (18th) after a butter-soft flank from Declan Rice, a little later, Ethan Nwaneri followed up after the Londoners had penetrated over the left side again and this time a cross from Myles Lewis-Skell found a teammate (21st).
An extremely chaotic hit by Mikel Merino, after checking for several minutes, then made an early decision (31st). The dropout of Thomas Partey also changed very little, who outlined Luuk de Jong after a PSV corner and thus enabled Noa Lang to 1: 3 (42.). Shortly afterwards, an outstanding parade from Walter Benitez prevented Rice the old distance (44.).
Lightning doubles done PSV hope
If Eindhoven won some hope after these last impressions, it quickly smashed. Shortly after the break, Benitez made a mistake that Odegaard could easily insert to 4: 1 (47th), only seconds later Trossard laid the ball over the storming goalkeeper and scored the fifth arsenal goal (48th).
However, it got worse for Eindhoven. Odegaard increased in the 73rd minute for the 6-1 and thus also ensured that a large number of Dutch fans left the stadium prematurely – in the 7-1 by Riccardo Calafiori (86.), some of them could have been at home. It is open whether one of these fans would like to start the trip to London in the coming week for the second leg (12.03.2025) – it will no longer be possible for PSV.
