In the first half of the season, Jamie Gitten was one of the few bright spots at Borussia Dortmund. The 20-year-old under ex-coach Nuri Şahin contributed eleven goals and four templates and rose to the most valuable BVB player at the market value update before Christmas. There is currently not much to be seen of this form and without the Englishman in the starting eleven Dortmund most recently celebrated the victories against Union Berlin (6-0) and at FC St. Pauli (2-0).

“You can tell that he is just frustrated,” sports director Sebastian Kehl admitted. His last goal participation celebrated Gitten on January 14th at 2: 4 in Kiel, and since then eleven games have been performed without scorer points. Gitten did nothing in the three games under Mike Tullberg and in the six under Kovac. “In the end, it is about the team – Jamie knows that too,” emphasized Kehl. “Nevertheless, he is incredibly important for the club, has made a difference. But it is good for us that we have this competitive situation. ”
Maximilian Beier (3 Scorer under Kovac) and Karim Adeyemi (2 Scorer) are currently on the offensive wings, which should also start in the Champions League round of 16 against Losc Lille on Tuesday evening (9 p.m.). “You can already see good approaches. We are already satisfied. But by far we are not yet where we want to go, ”Kovac said at the press conference before the game about the offensive.
Adeyemi, who was in the starting eleven under Kovac in every game, is certain: “The stadium will burn and we will also burn. We try to play too zero and do many goals at the front. I am in good spirits that we will win. ” For the taste of the trainer, this should be into research tones, because Lille is certainly a much stronger opponent than the two BVB development opponents Union Berlin and St. Pauli last. “French football and just Lille is good,” said the former AS Monaco coach. “We have to prepare for it that it will be a hard nut.”
So far, Kovac has managed to stabilize BVB defensively. In the league, the Dortmunders are still only in tenth place, but the gap to the European Cupal rents shrinks. “The basic structure is getting a little better. The trainer has always given many players the same trust, that is what pays off, ”said central defender Nico Schlotterbeck. “We had a lot of change in defense in the first half of the season, so we didn’t really get into the rhythm.”
