Tour winner Daniel Tschofenig landed in the back field on the normal hill at the World Cup. ÖSV sports director Mario Stecher got upset.

Actually, the Austrian ski jumper had gone as favorites in jumping on the normal hill at the Nordic Ski World Cup in Trondheim. In the end, however, Norwegian Marius Lindvik won ahead of DSV eagle Andreas Wellinger. With Jan Hörl in third place, only one Austrian made it onto the podium.

Stefan Kraft became sixth, four-hille touring winner Daniel Tschofenig. ÖSV sports director Mario Stecher saw the reason for Tschofenig’s performance not in a weak jump, but in a wrong jury decision.

The 47-year-old told the “Kronen Zeitung” in relation to the first round of the competition: “With a bit of a sensitivity of the jury, you shouldn’t let go of the World Cup, because he was without a chance. It was absolutely not okay.” When Tschofenig was sitting on the bar, it rained. In addition, the changing wind presented the Austrian with challenges. In the end, the jump did not work as hoped and the 22-year-old landed after 97 meters.

While Hörl cheered over the bronze medal at the end, there was only a disappointing rank in the back field for Tschofenig. Stecher does not worry about the carrier of the yellow jersey: “He knows how to deal well with the result and he knows that it is easy to classify.” Although Tschofenig did not show his best jump, but the external circumstances also played a role.

Tschofenig himself is looking forward to the big hill and explained to the “Kronen Zeitung”: “I am now really glad that I can get away from the little one. Last year I have already become difficult and became 14th. I’m really looking forward to the big one.”
