Bayer Leverkusens from FC Bayern, exceptional talent Florian Wirtz will be the best player in the world in the not too distant future. At least that’s the forecast of his ex-coach Peter Bosz.

The Dutchman, who coaches Bayer Leverkusen between 2019 and 2021 and cares for PSV Eindhoven today, told the “kicker” with a view to Florian Wirtz: “He already has an incredible level at such a young age. So I think that he will be his dream of becoming the best player in the world. One day he will be the best player in the world, I’m sure.”

Bosz did not want to compare his former protégé with football legends and absolute superstars like Lionel Messi.

“There is only one Lionel Messi, there is only one Kylian Mbappé, but there is only one Florian Wirtz. And if this Florian Wirtz continues to develop, you will ask yourself afterwards at the next big talents whether they may be as good as Florian Wirtz,” said the 61-year-old. “At the end of his career, Florian must be able to say to himself that he did everything for it. If he can say that, he will one day be the best footballer in the world. He has what it takes.”

Wirtz impressed him as a 16-year-old with his skills in professional training at the workself, Bosz described. “I knew that: he’s something special.”

Bayer Leverkusen: Florian Wirtz as the success factor?

At the time, Wirtz hardly needed advice despite his young age. “I didn’t have to tell him much,” said Bosz. “He said he wanted to be the best player in the world, and I saw that in training.”

In recent years, Wirtz has made physical progress and gained valuable experience, the coach analyzed. “And now, that is the most important thing for me, he can wear an entire team.”

Coach Xabi Alonso did “great work” at Bayer, Bosz praised his colleague. “But without Flo it would have been more difficult to achieve these great success”.
