That he had a severe form of stomach flu and had been to the toilet forty times that night.
Going to the toilet forty times in one night (“I think so seriously, that’s not overly”) is a lot. One night has six hours and that means that Gordon was on the toilet every four minutes. If you also take the time on the toilet – with aqueous stool it can go fast, say one minute – then he was only in bed for about two minutes every time.
