“It is an exemplary example of how a Jewish family went to the extreme to avoid fate.” Writer Frank Krake has put the unique story of the Jewish family Brücker on paper in the book Catharinathe dancer who has been saved twice by SS’er Adolf Eichmann.
Krake did research for three years into the story of the Brücker family and he had a lot of contact with the son of Catharina: Clarence Brücker. “Clarence was born on May 1, 1943 in the Westerbork camp hospital. He is now 81 years old and the most important moment for me is that he called me and told me he thinks it is a wonderful book.”
For the creation of the book, Krake traveled around for a week in Israel, where he also visited the famous Holocaust Institute Yad Vashem. “Catharina made a testimony of 1.5 hours there after the war, I fully studied it.” And Clarence’s contribution has also played an important role. “He didn’t want to cooperate at first, but after he had read a number of books from me, he still tacked.”
