Berlin’s debacle in Saarland: The crisping second division soccer team Hertha BSC has received a bitter rub down from SV Elversberg.
The team of coach Stefan Leitl went 0: 4 (0: 4) at the SVE and experienced a bitter déjà-vu in the middle of the relegation battle: the capital club had already been 1: 4 in the first leg.
Muhammed Damar (11th), Robin Fellhauer (29th), Tom Zimmerschied (37th) and Semih Sahin (45.+3, penalty) ensured the highest Elversberger half-time lead in the 2nd Bundesliga in the first round.
With 39 points, the team of coach Horst Steffen keeps the top positions. Hertha was completely overwhelmed under the new coach Leitl in the first defeat and is in 14th place with 26 points, and Berliners have been waiting for a win for six games.
Last week, Leitl started with a goalless draw against the 1st FC Nürnberg near Hertha. “The longing for a sense of achievement is great,” he had emphasized before the game, but after a balanced initial phase, his team conceded the first damper.
After a flat pass from Maurice Neubauer through the center, Damar ran completely freely to the Berlin goal and ensured the early leadership of the hosts.
Both teams pushed for the next goal. But Hertha was too careless again in a clarification attempt. Fellhauer took the chance, and the capitals then completely lost the thread.
Elias Baum lifted the Berlin defense again with a simple chipball, increased room difference. Leitl called his team together on the edge of the field for a heated speech.
But it came even bitter from Berlin: after a foul in the penalty area, Sahin ice cold from the point. Leitl changed twice after the break and brought Diego Demme and Toni Leistner for Florian Niederlechner and Pascal Klemens. But again the Elversberg pace and remained dangerous.
