The SG Flensburg-Handewitt has made the exciting race around the German handball championship even closer. In the top game of the 21st game day, the Schleswig-Holsteiner struggled with 35:33 (14:13) on Saturday evening.

What an intensive game! And what emotions in the Flensburg arena! When the final whistle sounded, the joy was limitless. Without her Danish world-class rear area player Simon Pytlick, for whom the season was probably ended prematurely due to a forearmbreak, the Flensburgers had finally defeated the MT. After the 24:33 in the first leg and the lost quarter-finals in the DHB Cup, it was the first victory this season in the third attempt. At the same time, it was the first success after three competitive games without a win.

Flensburg (30:12 points) in the table shortened the gap to Melsungen (34: 8) to four points. TSV Hannover-Burgdorf could take a win at HC Erlangen on Sunday with the MT. For the THW Kiel, who had won clearly in Bietigheim on Friday, thanks to the Flensburg support, it is now only two points on Melsungen.

“All games are endgames for us.”
-SG goalkeeper Kevin Møller

“What emotions were in the hall, on the field and also from the spectators, you really felt that today. What makes this club so unique: If there is a bad run, we are all even closer together,” said SG goalkeeper Kevin Møller in an interview with the NDR. And with a view to the table, he added: “We cannot allow ourselves to lose a game if we want to be at the top.”

Flensburg quickly inspires your own audience

The hosts started the game outstandingly. They looked so focused, so determined that the SG fans were enthusiastic about their seats after just six minutes to applaud their favorites while standing. There was applause, especially for a very strong grip of the compact 6-0 coverage and a quick switch to the offensive. In the first ten minutes, the North Germans threw the ball against the guests that attacked 7: 6 (twice Lukas Jørgensen, once Johannes Golla) from further distance into the empty gate.

After twelve and a half minutes, the SG had already forced the Melsung coach Roberto García Parrondo during his first break. At the time, the Schleswig-Holsteiners were 7: 3 at the time-the guard SG defensive in conjunction with the strong goalkeeper Kevin Møller had ensured that the leader had stayed for nine minutes without a hit.

Only: it didn’t go on like this. Parrondo gave up the 7: 6 tactics, and technical errors among the hosts and awarded top chances, such as by Emil Jakobsen, finally led to the 11:10 lead of the MT (24). The SG’s reaction was then impressive. With a 14:13 we went into the break. A two-goal lead would also have been possible very well. Golla threw the ball into the empty guest goal after a quick middle, but SG coach Ales Pajovic had taken a break immediately before-unhappy!

Jakobsen keeps the nerve at the seven meters

Even after the restart, it was a duel at eye level in which it could not be foreseen who would prevail. Eight minutes before the end of the game, Lasse Møller provided 27:25. In the last minutes of the game it was similar to the initial phase. The SG reacted very quickly to goals and hit the empty gate twice in the middle. Three minutes before the end, Jakobsen could have caused a three-goal lead by counterfeit, but he failed to MT goalkeeper Nebojsa Simic.

50 seconds before the siren it was only 33:32, but the Flensburger got a seven meter. Jakobsen competed, scored 34:32 and made everything clear. Flensburg was able to rely on his Danish stars against the leader. Lasse Møller met seven times, also the world champions Jørgensen (6), Jakobsen and Mads Mensah Larsen (5 each) wore the team.
