The Nordic combiner Jarl Magnus Riiber has won his tenth World Cup gold. Riiber grabbed the victory in the individual compact at the Nordic Ski World Cup in Trondheim. The decision was made after 7.5 kilometers in the final sprint. Vinzenz Geiger won bronze.
Riiber wrote history. The man who will end his career at the end of the season won his tenth World Cup gold and is the first combinator to win the title on the small ski jump four times in a row.
After jumping, the Germans fled with a win, in the end the Norwegians had their nose ahead: Riiber won ahead of Jens Lurås AUSTEBRO. Vinzenz Geiger ran to bronze. Julian Schmid narrowly missed the medals as fourth.
Schmid and violinist with “sharp” start
After jumping from the normal hill, Julian Schmid (3rd) and Vinzenz Geiger (6th) were promising in the race. With a sophisticated tactic, the DSV combiners went to the cross-country skiing run over 7.5 kilometers. Both went down “sharply” and tried to close the gap on riiber. Schmid quickly grabbed the Japanese Ryota Yamamoto after jumping. The hunt for Riiber was more stressful. The high -flyer sought his luck in flight forward and, like the Germans, started quickly.
This cost Körner, especially since Schmid was extremely quick and was able to capture Riiber after 3.5 kilometers. Both booted in front, but no longer with full steam. This was how violers could catch up. The Oberstdorfer took the lead after four kilometers. In the tow in addition to Riiber and Schmid were also Johannes Lamparter (Austria) and Yamamoto.
Norwegian with magic-ski
Because the top 5 was strolling, a large group around Johannes Rydzek could also suck. 14 athletes were 2.5 kilometers within eight seconds and controlled the goal. At the top, violinist and Schmid tried to blow up the group with tempo sharpening.
Much of a kilometer before the finish line had to be torn down. Six combiners ran around the medals – and even flew up the mountain. The pace was incredible and the Norwegians often and riiber had the greatest strength reserves and fast skiing. On the home stretch, Riiber then sprinted past frequently. Geiger no longer came to the top duo and crossed the goal as third and won his second medal in the second competition. “I would have loved to have won,” Geiger admitted on ZDF.
Time interviews have been determined
In the individual compact, stronger runners benefit because the better jumpers cannot jump away. The time intervals have been determined and calculated based on the placement. The last runner goes into the race for a maximum of 1:30 minutes after the jump winner. This should increase the tension.
At the start of silver in the mixed team
Vinzenz Geiger and Julian Schmid are already decorated with World Cup silver. In the mixed team, both won silver behind Norway together with Nathalie Armbruster and Jenny Nowak on Friday.
