August 21, 1982: Only cleared-Nena starts an unprecedented NDW career in the “Musikladen”
Gabriele Susanne Kerner had never dreamed of such a career – back then when she edited the fan post of the Spliff group in Jim Raket’s office. But an appearance on the ARD show “Musikladen” was enough, and Nena was the first (and actually the only one) really big star of the NDW. On August 21, 1982, she sang the love song “only dreamed” in the Bang, bright red leather mini and with the usual 80s accessories (Kreolen, weld bands, hairspray), which had already been published two months earlier …
The new Deutsche Welle was also rolled up with bands such as DAF, Fehilfarben or Trio, but no other band should have such broad and relatively long -lasting success as Nena. Nena was a band that was said to be Nena, the girl, not tired. Again and again she pointed out. Also when Nena climbed into the hit parades worldwide in 1983, which was actually primarily the merit of keyboardist Uwe Fahrenkrog-Petersen, which composed all big hits from Nena.
54 times she adorned the title of the “Bravo”
Drummer Rolf Brendel was initially known as Nena’s friend, guitarist Carlo Karges and bass player Jürgen Dehmel were satisfied with roles in the background. So it was mostly Nena, the singer who was in the spotlight. She adorned the title of “Bravo” 54 times and easily left all other NDW stars behind.
It was due to her natural charisma, say admirers like Johannes B. Kerner (and he does not mean the armpit hair that was still standard at the time) and the self -confidence with which she ignored all critics. Nena also managed to sing these brisk pop songs so casually and to get so loudly in between that you forgot to ask about the meaning of some verses.

Also unforgettable remains “dreamed” by youthful brain-burned lines like: “Everything I like about you, I mean that, as I say it/ I’m totally confused/ I will go crazy when it happens today …” 1987 Nena, the band, but Nena, the singer, again-with the help of Fahrenkrog-Petersen-in 2002, and has been annoying as an over-mother, leisure educator since then. Querdenker, but as the best known German singer, has burned herself in the collective memory of the Germans.
