Dying was never nicer: super producer Richard Russell crafts the transience by reconciling folk with soul.
You have to wait until the penultimate piece to finally cry. The “The Meadows”, which is casually with a jazzy taste frequency, ends in fragments from Grabreden by Kamasi Washington’s saxophone and undoubtedly makes it clear what Richard Russell is about on this album: Death. “Our Flesh and Blood Only Temporary” had it printed on the cover, surrounded by the musician personnel who represents his respective zodiac sign on playing cards.
There are many of the usual suspects from their own house that the Boss of the XL label competes on his third Everything IS Recorded album: Soul-Tenor Sampha, Laura Groves or his latest Signing Nourished by Time, but also Pil-Bass legend Jah Wobble and the 77-year-old Maddy Prior of Steeleye Span to realize the music that is flawless in his head and at the same time combine all pop generations.
Twelve soul-soaked songs with homeopathic folk dosage had his carefully curated troops recorded in a four-year phase of origin, this time more melody than groove drives. The most stamped “Losing You”, here Sampha and Yazz Ahmed’s trumpet cries through the almost disco -like groove. Most of the time, electronic sound design relies and leaves the singer: a lot of freedom inside. Dying has never been nicer than in these hereafter songs.
