Escaped camel kills two men at US petting zoo | Abroad

The police received a call late in the afternoon: the escaped animal is said to have been walking around near the farm and attacking people. Officers arrived on the scene and found “two unconscious men on the ground,” local news site WPSD reported Friday. The animal was still walking around at the time and was still acting aggressively.

Several units arrived on the scene to ensure that bystanders were led to a safe place. The aggressive camel was still out of his mind: the animal attacked a police vehicle and turned to officers, who then tried to help the victims.

Because the situation got so out of hand, it was decided on the spot to shoot the animal.

Victims

According to the police statement, 42-year-old Bobby Matheny and 47-year-old Tommy Gunn are the victims. The men died on the spot from their injuries.

Problems have been reported by the authorities in the past. The care of the animals and the regulations are said to have left something to be desired, according to WPSD and other foreign media: the animals had limited access to water and visitors to the petting zoo could pet the animals without supervision.
