Referee David Cote is known, but not necessarily because of his sporting performance. Now he was banned by UEFA.

UEFA has occupied the English referee David Cote with a long -term lock. The 42-year-old is not allowed to lead any games by June 30, 2026. This reports the AP news agency, citing the association’s control, ethics and disciplinary commission. Cote violated “fundamental rules of decent behavior” and discredited football and the UEFA, the reasoning said.

Cote was already criticized in the past. Last December, the English referee organization separated from him after he had previously been suspended. The background was, among other things, a video in which he had scattered himself about the Liverpool coach Jürgen Klopp at the time. Coote later apologized for these statements.

Another incident also burdened the referee: A video published in July 2024 is said to show him when using cocaine in a UEFA Hotel during the European Championship in Germany. Coote told the English newspaper “The Sun” that he had “rarely” taken drugs and made “bad decisions in a personal context” in his life.

He also spoke of many years of personal problems related to his oppressed homosexuality. At the EM 2024, COOTE was used as a video assistant, including at the round of 16 between Germany and Denmark.
