Go Ahead Eagles has surprisingly qualified for the final of the KNVB cup. The team of trainer Paul Simonis was too strong for PSV in Eindhoven: 1-2. It is the first time since 1965 that Go Ahead Eagles is in the final.
Go Ahead led at half time with two goals difference. Defender Gerrit Nauber headed the Deventenaren in the 25th minute from a corner of Dean James ahead. A few minutes later, Victor Edvardsen doubled the lead (0-2) after a fast and well-executed counter.
Ivan Perisic brought the tension back after an hour of play. The Kroaat used a penalty kick that was given after Nauber’s hands. Go Ahead staggered and saw Perisic and Ismael Saibari miss good opportunities.
Heracles Almelo or AZ is the opponent of Go Ahead in the final on April 21 in De Kuip. Those two clubs will play against each other next Thursday.
