On Wednesday there were the first test drives in Formula 1. A young Italian was convincing – and will make his debut in March.

A promising start for Andrea Kimi Antonelli: The only 18 -year -old Italian, who will start for Mercedes in the coming season, set the best time on the first test day of Formula 1 in Bahrain. In his new silver arrow, he did a total of 78 laps on Sakhir’s Grand Prix course and left the competition behind.

Liam Lawson took second place in Red Bull behind Antonelli. However, the New Zealand, who runs alongside defending champion Max Verstappen this season, had occasional difficulties to keep the new car of the Austrian racing team under control. His deficit to Antonelli was 0.132 seconds.

While Antonelli will make his debut in Formula 1 in Melbourne on March 16, the 23 -year -old Lawson has already gained experience in the premier class of motorsport. Last year he played several races for the Red Bull sister team Racing Bulls. Next to him, five other drivers are there for the first time this season as regular pilots.

Even if both Antonelli and Lawson impression on the test drives, the times and placements during the test drives are only significantly meaningful due to the different programs.
