Phil Harres always had to take setbacks in his career. Used the professionals of Dynamo Dresden in 2021, followed two borrowings before the center forward adopted the Saxons entirely and took a new attempt at FC 08 Homburg in the regional league Südwest. There he immediately convinced with 24 goals in 35 games as a top scorer, which Holstein Kiel made the 22-year-old aware of. A dared step from the 4. League to the upper house, but Harres fit quickly.
“I just thought that I had nothing to lose and get a big chance here. And if it hadn’t worked in the first team, I would have continued to play with the U23 in the regional league. That would not have been a step back. I had nothing to lose and could be brave, ”said Harres in an interview with the“Kicker“.
At the beginning, however, he needed a little familiarization period and played a minute both in the first round of the DFB Cup and on the first seven Bundesliga match days, sometimes he was not even part of the squad. “I still felt comfortable. The trainer always spoke to me and gave me feedback. I had already said to myself that I had nothing to lose and also expected that I would probably not be in the squad in the first few weeks. I thought that I would get a few minutes of play at some point and I decided that I would then have to be ready, ”said the attacker, who gained his first ten minutes for KSV for the away game at VfB Stuttgart. “It was something special for me. It was always my dream to play in the Bundesliga. “
Since the first substitution, Harres has not missed a game and has so far had seven goals and a template with which he is the second best scorer in the team. He sees potential with himself “actually everywhere”. “I can still look at the cleverness that many players have,” said the striker, who revealed that he is Bavaria fan.
Harres about constant borrowing and career deadline
Harres once described his bumpy beginnings with the words that he was “scattered a bit”. He found his first loan to SSV Ulm as “not bad, because I know that my performance was not good.” He felt very comfortable with the sparrows where he was originally supposed to stay for two years. However, after a year he was ordered back when Dynamo relegated into the 3rd league. However, he was still not allowed to stay there. “I was promised that I could no longer take part in team training – so I let myself be laid again, although I would have liked to stay. However, Ulm no longer had free squad places – and I went to Viktoria Berlin, ”said Harres.
Because of his experience, he sat down a deadline until when it was possible with the professional career. “I look at how far I am at 23, and when I notice that it doesn’t go any further in football, then I start studying,” was his plan. The goal of professional football was finally achieved by Harres, who will be 23 in a month.
