Schimmelhuizen are a problem that occurs throughout Brabant, but the big cities, especially in the Eindhoven region, are taking the crown. Especially the tenants of Alwel, Mooiland, Wonen Breburg and Woonbedrijf have commented on fungal nuisance at the hotline.

‘Moved to hotel’
Severe fungal nuisance that nothing is done about, it drives many people to despair. For example, the reports we received. In many cases the landlord is responsible for solving the problem, but in practice that is often very different. “New apartment, full of fungus, but the landlord does nothing about it. We have since moved to a hotel, “says one of the detectors.

Calling, emailing, complaining, making reports at the landlord, usually residents have already tried a lot to raise the problem with the landlord. “I don’t know what to do anymore, I have called so many times to the housing, arguing and they promise anything and everything, but there is still no action,” another desperate resident reports.

Last for years
That argument can sometimes take a few months to even years. “I suffer from recurring fungus. I have been here for at least 6 years, if it is no longer complaining and is simply ignored. ” Is the experience of another fungal home resident. Yet it can take even longer. “When I came to live here 11 years ago, there was already fungus in the bathroom. Unfortunately, the landlord does nothing about it ”, I can read one of the reports.

Ill -home
It is worrying that residents are often not heard. Certainly if residents get sick of it: “My children have a constant cold or sick. You can sort it out for yourself and you don’t help them. ” According to several residents, health problems are eliminated by the landlord. “I have become a heavy lung patient in the last two years and I am not taken seriously,” another resident told Omroep Brabant.

Fungus and despair
The hotline therefore not only mapped out of fungal houses, but also the negligent attitude of many landlords and housing associations. Some residents are even afraid of reporting the problem. “The landlord is difficult and the situation only gets worse, tenants are considered annoying. For fear of an escalation, I make a report anonymously, “says one of the reports.

Mathijs ten Broeken van de Woonbond also sees the problems that tenants experience around fungal nuisance in their rental home, “The consequences of fungus are often underestimated or traced by the landlord. This ensures that the problems are not tackled quickly and the number of fungal homes in the Netherlands has been huge for years. ”

But this is not allowed at all according to the Woonbond. Ten Broek: “It is up to landlords to remedy defects in the house. If this does not happen or too late, the rental committee or the court can make a decision. That the rent must be temporarily reduced, until the defect is remedied. ”

Response Landlords

We have asked the aforementioned housing corporations for a response. The image that little is done with complaints, they say they don’t recognize.

Mooiland: “We always like to talk to the residents to solve the problem. Fungal formation in homes is very annoying. If we get a report, we will investigate what is going on. Then we will see how it can be solved. “

Residential company: “We are familiar with this. We therefore take every report extremely seriously. We work hard on healthy and safe homes. That is why we tackle moisture and fungus together with the resident. With a report we contact the resident. We (or have) investigated what the cause is. Together with the resident we look at a good approach. We cannot solve everything immediately. That takes time and money. ”

Living Breburg: “Yes, we receive reports about fungus in homes. We take every report seriously and look at what the cause is and what is needed for each situation. We keep talking with residents and together we look for solutions. We also have special attention to homes with fungus within sustainability. ”
