13,300 homes were added in Brabant in the past year. That is about 14 percent less than last year. The municipality of Oirschot is opting for so -called infringement, making homes in buildings that are already there.

The province is quite satisfied despite the decrease. The housing was, and sit, still in a dip throughout the country. Causes are problems with permits, nitrogen and the considerably increased construction costs.

More than 10,500 homes were added due to new construction, but 3000 vacant offices, retail premises and other real estate were also converted into houses or apartments. In this way municipalities have to build less on the edges of the village or the city and in the green.

The municipality of Oirschot is at the forefront. There is plenty of focus on so -called infringement, so make homes in buildings that are already there, but rather had a different function.

Relatively speaking, nowhere in Brabant so many homes were added to the stock as in the municipality of Oirschot. 142 Building permits were issued there last year.

In the village of Middelbeers they do not opt for a street, but for a lively center. “There was a blind facade here, popularly called the lamentation wall of the Beerzen,” alderman Joep van de Ven of the municipality of Oirschot points out. “Thirteen owner -occupied homes have now replaced it. The place has been refurbished.”

A little further on, on the site of the former lemonade factory, 29 new houses are being built. The industrial complex had been empty for a while.

Eleven of the houses fall into the ‘Affordable Buy’ category, but with an asking price of around 350,000 euros for the young people in the village far from feasible.

“This building first served as a dental practice.”

That is why in the municipality of Oirschot also thought of that group by giving an existing building a re -use. “This building first served as a dental practice and regional house,” says Van de Ven. Now there are nine apartments where the Beerse starters can get a place. “According to him, there are many young people who would like to stay in Beers.
