The Los Angeles Rams gave the agent of their star quarters Matthew Stafford Green Light to talk to other teams about a possible trade with subsequent contract extension in the NFL.

Trade rumors have been circulating for a long time for quarterback Matthew Stafford. But now it seems to be a bit more concrete at least. As the “NFL Network” reported, the agents of Stafford, Tom Condon and Jimmy Sexton from Caa Football can now exchange ideas with other teams.

However, as several media reported, this does not yet mean that a trade is the logical consequence of it. Rather, the RAMs and the agents are simply concerned with exploring the general interest and deriving a realistic market value for Stafford. Both sides have been in negotiations on a possible contract extension and discussions with other teams, according to “ESPN” for a long time, to ultimately lead to a common denominator if it is clear what other teams would pay for Stafford.

Stafford’s ongoing contract will continue until 2026, but he is currently guaranteed only four million dollars in the form of a roster bonus this year. It is not its remaining salary of $ 23 million this year and an option bonus ($ 6.5 million). Accordingly, a new contract is up for debate, which should raise its salary back to the market level.

Stafford stands for success in Los Angeles

After numerous injuries in recent years, Stafford is still one of the better quarterbacks of the NFL and led the Rams 2024 into the playoffs for the third time in his four years in Los Angeles. In 16 games he came up with 3762 yards and 20 touchdowns (8 Int).

In his first season at the Rams 2021, he also won the Super Bowl with the team. Previously, he worked for the Detroit Lions for twelve years, where he basically held all relevant Passing records after being the first pick in the draft in 2009.
