At the biathlon World Cup 2025, the German gentlemen remained completely without a single medal. Only the first precious metal of a men’s relay in five years was a bit of the weak World Cup result. With a view of the 2026 Olympic Games, DSV sports director Felix Bitterling therefore raises the alarm.

The biathlon World Cup 2025 in Lenzerheide showed the DSV that the top of the world has moved far away from men. “The distances are huge and that is nothing that can satisfy me as a responsible person,” said sports director Felix Bitterling: “We have to work on that, we have to analyze it. And we have to get that under control – especially with the few time until the Olympics . ”

In the four individual races in Switzerland, the German men stayed without precious metal, like two years ago at home in Oberhof. The only top ten result was achieved by Philipp Horn, who was seventh in the individual. After all, in the relay, the men succeeded with bronze, which Bitterling even described as “terrific”.

Biathlon: DSV sees “more potential” among men

However, he should not hide the postponed balance of power in the biathlon world tip. “The Norwegians can no longer be seen with the binoculars, the French also have a giant gap and we were the best in class three,” the sports director drew a very bitter summary.

The surprising relay medal could not really brighten the mood at the DSV. “We have more potential for men, but we just don’t get it onto the street. It has been going through like a thread for some time,” criticized Bitterling and referred to the sprint, which in his view was “out of the question”.

However, individual services were always difficult. Weak performance at the shooting range had cost better results all winter. A problem that continued at the World Championships.
