Germany goes to the polls today, and most likely makes a back to the right. The CDU of Friedrich Merz is in the lead in the polls. He is a big contender to succeed current Chancellor Olaf Scholz (SPD). His party will probably get big blows after three difficult government years. But most eyes are focused on the extreme right-wing AfD, which is second in the polls. The ballot boxes close at 6 p.m. and immediately follow the first exit poll.
