In the easternmost town of the Czech Republic, two MMA fighters from Germany are concerned. With Oktagon 67 in Trinec in Trinec, the Bremen Jaime Cordero wants to keep his chance of a place in the million tournament, the Berlin Niko Samsonidse could get a new chance of winning the feather weight with a win against Edgar Delgado.
Between Cordero (7-2) and opponent Milan Datelinka (10-4) there was a duel in the cage a few months ago. At that time, the fight had to be broken off to the head of the Slovak because of an unintentional but unauthorized elbow of the German. When again meetings in the reserve stamp of the Gamechanger tournament, Cordero dominated the first few minutes. After a slip Datelinkas, he pinned his opponent on the ground and landed a few hits.
Datelinka got up again and landed a crashing one-two combination, in the subsequent clinch he brought Cordero to the ground with a hip throw. However, Cordero used the worse position to conjure up a handling concept (head-and-arm choke). The Bremer turned at lightning speed, improved his position and grip, whereupon Datelinka lost consciousness.
The 33-year-old Bremer had already won his last fight with a Kimura Task Conference, although he was more feared for his hard kicks and blows. “I want to show that I am not just a striker, but dangerous in all areas,” said Cordero in an interview after the fight.
Samsonidse proves heads
Niko Samsonidse (11-3) wanted to follow suit a little later in the evening. With the Costa Ricaner Edgar Delgado (15-6), however, he had an experienced opponent in front of his chest, who was recently champion in the Mexican organization Lux. The Berlin Fighter worked a lot with the Jab in round one and used his range advantage against Delgado. The outsider moved a lot, but always caught the goal of the German. After about three minutes, the Costa Ricaner landed a violent blow with a hook, which Samsonidse sent out briefly to the ground. Delgado even brought a takedown seconds before the end, but could not keep the fight on the ground.
In the second round, the Berliner varied his game plan and showed why he is attested to such a high fight IQ. He sprinkled more kicks into the front leg of his opponent – and they left effect. Delgado limp slightly after several goals, looked for his luck in wild advances and with wild swinging, kept diving under the Samsonidse. Towards the end of the round, a catch of the Costa Ricaner, who sent the Berliner to the ground. Samsonidse quickly got back on his feet and attacked his leg again. That stopped Delgados again and again.
In the third round, Samsonidse continued to kick his opponent’s leg. At first Delgado was still wiggling, he went down at the following kick. He indicated that it didn’t go any further. The Berliner won through technical knockout. “Four years ago I broke my leg myself in a fight and now I win a fight in this way,” said Samsonidse. “I actually wanted to get back into the cage directly, but I think I broke my hand,” said Samsonidse, who got a title fight with the victory.
