In Riad, the German boxer Agit Kabayel fights for his long-awaited World Cup fight. The Bochumer prevails against the 130-kilo colossus Zhang-and can dream.
Agit Kabayel has come a little closer to his big goal. The 32-year-old heavyweight from Bochum defeated the Chinese knockout specialist Zhoei Zhang in Riad and secured the interim title of the WBC association. With this victory, he is now the official compulsory challenger of world champion Oleksandr Usyk.
After six out of twelve scheduled rounds, Kabayel decided to fight through Knockout. Again and again he followed up with hard body hits and finally forced his opponent to his knees. In particular, his targeted blows on the liver made Zhang.
The success in Saudi Arabia was another exclamation mark for Kabayel. His balance sheet remains flawless: 26 fights, 26 victories – 18 by Knockout. With this series he could be the first German heavyweight world champion since Max Schmeling.
Former boxer Axel Schulz praised him as the best German heavyweight since the turn of the millennium.
