Sportdrenthe, the organizer of the annual Sportgala in the province, has surprised by the nominations of the municipality of Tynaarlo for this year’s edition. Big absentee is cyclist Tibor del Grosso from Eelde, who became world champion for the promises for the second time in a row last calendar year.
Del Grosso is not nominated in both the sportsman of Drenthe 2024 and Sport Talent of the year 2024. The Italian rider Edoardo Affini has been nominated in the first category. He has been living in Donderen with his girlfriend since last year. The Italian won the European title on the individual time trial last year, and with the Italian team he won European Championships on the Mixed Team Relay.
We also see the name of Del Grosso in the Sports Talent category of Drenthe 2024. The 18-year-old cyclist Floris Haverdings was nominated there. He is the younger brother of David Haverdings.
Despite the world title that Del Grosso won, it was not enough for him to survive the shilling in Tynaarlo: “We also make a shadow list every year. We noticed that del grosso was nowhere. Just inquired with the municipality, because he put down impressive performance last year, “says a communication officer of the organization.
But it doesn’t have consequences for the final list. “Ultimately, it is the municipalities that have the decisive voice. Perhaps we will still discuss this in the evaluation. We are still thinking of giving Tibor attention in a different way.”
The municipality of Tynaarlo was not available for a response.
Baan cyclist Maike van der Duin from Assen also shines due to absence on the list of nominees for sportswoman Van Drenthe 2024. The municipality of Assen is shifting shot sticker Jorinde van Klinken, despite the bronze medal by Van der Duin on the Olympic Games in Paris last summer.
Sportdrenthe: “The municipality of Assen has indicated that they have already nominated Van der Duin in recent years. For that reason they have now preferred Van Klinken.”
