Potsdam (dpa-AfX)-Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock considers more pressure on the US government to make sense, even with regard to the United States’ negotiations with Russia about Ukraine. “We increase the pressure on the Americans that they have a lot to lose if they are no longer at the side of the liberal democracies in Europe,” said the Greens top candidate at an election campaign event in Potsdam.

Baerbock: “second turn” necessary

Baerbock took up the concept of the turn of the time of Chancellor Olaf Scholz (SPD) at the beginning of the Ukraine War. “We said three years ago: It is a turning point. Now we need a second turn, no hesitation and hesitate for our peace.”

In view of the talks about Ukraine, the Greens politician warned of blackmail. “A false peace – a peace that is not peace, but blackmail or surrender is not peace, but is the opposite: the further preparation for even more war and violence,” said Baerbock. “That’s why I will support Ukraine as long as it needs it because it is our peace.” She emphasized: “Nobody can decide about war and peace about the heads of the Ukrainians or from us Europeans – and that’s a clear German position.”

Baerbock about relationship with the USA: nothing decided

The United States is talking to Russia without inclusion of Ukraine. Foreign Minister Marco Rubio and Sergei Lavrow already met in the Saudi capital Riad. US President Donald Trump had for the first time with Kremlin chief last week Vladimir Putin Telephoned to talk about the end of the war.

Baerbock advised with a view to the European-American relationship to wait. “Nothing is decided,” she said. She advised that you should “not go to the glue and jump over every stick of what will hold us” ./ VR/DP/MIS
