The Grand Prix of Monaco in Formula 1 was bored in 2024. Even the drivers were missing in the principality of action. In order for this to change in the future, the FIA discusses the introduction of a unique regulation for the city course.

Last year’s Monaco Grand Prix has inevitably led to a renewed debate about what Formula 1 has to do to increase the tension in the principality. Because with the larger and heavier racing cars there are even fewer bike-am-wheel duels in the narrow streets than before.

Shortly after the tiring race in the Principality, several team bosses had spoken out for restructuring the traditional GP. For example, it was discussed that the route had to be changed in order to create real overtaking somewhere. The ideas ranged from possible changes to the “Nouvelle Chicane” to the installation of completely new curves.

On the edge of the great launch event of Formula 1 on Tuesday evening (9:00 p.m., live at Sport.de), the FIA met in London to also discuss the future of the race on the Mediterranean coast. As can be seen from a message from the World Automobile Association, there could be additional compulsory boxing stops for the first time in the Principality of 2025.

Formula 1: “Specific regulations” planned for Monaco

“With the aim of improving the Grand Prix of Monaco, the Commission discussed suggestions for a specific regulations,” it says: “The Commission agreed to increase the number of stipulated pit stops during the race. These suggestions are will continue to be discussed by the advisory committee for sports facilities. “

So far, the regulations stipulated that at least two different slick tire sets are used in races under dry conditions. This led to an extremely boring race in 2024: the teams used a long interruption after an early accident to change the tire, after which the drivers only had to manage.

World champion Max Verstappen found the race so boring at the time that he regretted not taking his pillow into the car, as he sounded on the box radio.
