After gold in the persecution and silver in the sprint, Franziska Preuss also targeted a World Cup medal in singles. The dream only burst in the last shooting. A German World Cup debutant was convincing.
Franziska Preuß missed her next medal at the biathlon World Cup in Lenzerheide (Switzerland). In a single over 15 kilometers, Germany’s top athlete remained in the first three shooting, but failed twice in the last standing stop and ended up in tenth. The dream of the fourth precious metal had burst at the World Cup.
Previously, the 30-year-old had cleared gold in the persecution, silver in the sprint and bronze in the mixed relay.
Preuss then analyzed in the ZDF interview: “I was just unfocused. I already noticed the stadium spokesman when I stopped, which is usually not a good sign. I was just restless and then two mistakes. The last round was not a pleasure.”
The Frenchwoman Julia Simon (1 error) won the victory in a time of 41: 27.70. Silver won Ella Halvarsson (0) from Sweden, bronze went to Simon’s compatriot Lou JeanMonnot (1).
World Cup debutant Johanna Puff, who had moved to the German team for Sophia Schneider at short notice, made a strong single race. The 22-year-old remained flawless in all four and justified her nomination. Her 20 goals at the shooting range were enough for the 22nd place.
Julia Tannheimer missed a significantly better placement due to three mistakes in the last shooting. After four tickets, she landed in position 33 outside of the top 30.
Selina Grotian also had a disappointment, who allowed five shooting errors and reached the finish line far.
