He has long ended his professional career after over 400 Bundesliga games, but he cannot leave the kick at 37. That is why Gonzalo Castro will run in the district league in the future.

A change that caused a stir in the Köln 2 district league: Gonzalo Castro strengthens TuS Roland Bürrig. The former Bundesliga professional, who looks back on a long career in the highest German division, joins the amateur club from Leverkusen.

The ninth division raves about his newcomer: Castro comes with a player who wrote Bundesliga history and is now opening up a new chapter in Bürrig. Coach Thomas Herrmann explained that the contact was made via team manager Gökhan Güney. This has a private connection to Castro, which made conversations possible.

“We took the chance to inspire him for our project – and he caught fire,” said Herrmann. The ex-professional has deliberately taken the time to make its decision, which shows that it does not just want to kick off somewhere, but was with full commitment.

The obligation is also something special for the team: “The players can learn a lot from him – be it his style of play, his professionalism or his attitude,” emphasized Herrmann. However, Castro himself does not want to play a special role, but rather contribute as a normal team member.

The former Bundesliga professional is looking forward to the new challenge and to pass on his experience. “The boys are all great and motivated, that was an important part that influenced my decision – of course the coach,” said Castro.

With the new addition, the promotion to Kreisliga A is said to succeed. TuS Roland Bürrig leads the table with a two -point lead at the winter break. “We played a fantastic preliminary round, but the second half of the season will demand everything,” said Herrmann. “Our goal is to make the climb perfect – and with a player like Castro we have even more quality and experience in the squad to achieve this goal.”
