The Chemical Group BASF is negotiating with the works council about a waiver of operational dismissals and a modernization of the Ludwigshafen location.

The talks about a new location agreement were started, said a company spokeswoman for the German Press Agency.

The aim of the dialogue is a new agreement that enables the “target image”, which is communicated as part of a recently published strategy and changes in the location. The so -called target image provides for savings of around one billion euros by the end of 2026 at the Ludwigshafen location. This is accompanied by the breakdown of hundreds of jobs.

Works council: runtime at least five years

Until the end of the year, BASF has a location agreement that excludes operational terminations in Ludwigshafen. So far, the agreement has been had positive experiences because it made it possible to implement necessary changes at the location, said the spokeswoman.

The company’s works council announced that it is based on the “success formulas” of previous location agreements in the current negotiations. These are a term of at least five years as well as protective mechanisms for employees – in particular the waiver of operational dismissals – as well as investments at the Ludwigshafen location, emphasized Sinisha Horvat’s works council.
