In Germany, it is only allowed after the summer change period to oblige contractless footballers outside the regular transfer phase. In contrast, there have been protests by the VDV (Association of Contract Football Players), which speaks of a “professional ban” for years, but has not yet been changed. The DFL insists at its point of view and argues that such new additions could lead to a distortion of competition. Even in the Austrian Bundesliga and in Turkey, clubless people may only be registered again from July 1st.

Similar regulations are also available in France. There may only be subject to the case in an emergency if the case occurs that a “medical joker” is needed, as it says in Article 213 of the league statute. However, the replacement must come from another French association or have its last license at a club in France.

Transfers of clubless: deadlines in Italy and Belgium

In Italy, on the other hand, clubless can still sign until February 23 – provided that they had already dissolved their working papers before the transfer period ended. In Belgium, a contract without a contract must be registered by March 15 at the latest in order to be able to take part in national competitions in the current season.

But other well-known names can also be found in this list, such as ex-barcelona professional Rafinha (32), the former Munich Bouna Sarr (33) or (36), which generated transfer revenues of around 100 million euros in its career.
